RADIOLOGY AND ULTRASOUND

We have a state of the art radiology (xray) machine.  Radiographs are extremely helpful for diagnosing and monitoring many medical and surgical problems.  It helps us locate tumors and foreign bodies, fractures, and arthritic lesions.  It detects heart and lung disease, gastrointestinal problems, and bladder stones.  It also allows us to perform contrast studies of the intestinal and urinary tract to detect more difficult and/or chronic problems.

Ultrasound is another invaluable non-invasive diagnostic device.  It allows us to scan the surface and inner structures of an organ.  Ultrasound provides us with a visual map of parts of our body and therefore becomes a crucial tool when diagnosing diseases of the heart, lungs, liver, gallbladder, adrenal glands, intestines, spleen, and urinary tract.

ENDOSCOPY

Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure which aids in the diagnosis and treatment of problems in the upper respiratory and gastrointestinal tract. The instrument has a flexible tube that not only provides an image for visual inspection and photography, but also enables us to take biopsies and retrieve foreign objects. Even though anesthesia is required, the amount used is typically greatly reduced which will help keep the recovery time to a minimum. Endoscopy is often indicated when routine blood and urine tests, radiographs and ultrasound do not provide us with a complete diagnostic picture.

LABORATORY TESTING

Our hospital is equipped with a complete laboratory. It provides us with invaluable information that is critical to the sick and injured patient as well as those undergoing anesthesia.  Results are often available within minutes.  If your pet requires specialized testing, we have access to an outside referral lab.  Our most commonly performed lab tests are heartworm tests, fecal exams, complete blood counts, blood chemistries, and urinalysis.
